I had to prop up the 25-year-old wisteria vine while I replaced the rotted old fence in this Seattle backyard.

I also converted one of the windows to a doorway, as you can see in the background of the first two images.

I call this particular client’s aesthetic “fairy zen,” because she cultivates a meditative stillness in her yard, while sprinkled throughout, like Easter eggs, are little pixies and amulets. It is a magical synthesis of playful and reverent.
